Mirror,Mirror On The Wall...

The bauld Kim did me the singular honour of a Blog Reflection Award this week and I've been racking what passes for my brain for a reply worthy of the kindness.I was astounded to read the paragraph Kim wrote about my blog and the depth to which he has delved into my modest effort here.

Astounded and unexpectedly moved.

It seems that Kim and I are of a type when it comes to sentiment and have no truck with the blurb that accompanied the original award. So much so I'm not even going to bother with it here. While I hope it doesn't violate the spirit of the award the whole "Godly" thing (nothing to do with Kim btw) seemed a bit on the um.....excessive side shall we say?

Nevertheless I'm going to do my part and name five other blogs that make me sit up,take notice,pause for a minute and well......reflect on what I've just read.........OK sometimes I might pause for a moment,scratch a convenient body part,make a cup of tea and go ;
"What the fuck is he/she on about?"
but that's fine too and if I have to I can usually corner them in comments and demand satisfaction as in;
" Hi bollix ye'd better explain yerself or it'll be Pistols For Two,Coffee For One"

Of course the problem here is limiting the selection to 5.Everyone on my blogroll is there because they all have at some point gave me pause, made me think about something a little more than I might have otherwise. So here goes.....

Bock The Robber
You never know what to expect from Bock.Biting socio-political commentary one minute, surreal Papahunden slagging the next,Bock hops around topics and threads like a fire walker who gets halfway down the bed of coals and realises that this shit is fucking well hot.Apart from that his generousity almost had me on a plane last Christmas. My life was literally falling to pieces around my ears and his "Sure come on home.I've a house full of fucking lunatics ...what's one more?"gave me enough light to navigate through some tough times.
We don't always see eye to eye but you don't always have to with a friend.

Winds And Breezes
Back when I was from Mars and only had a tourist visa for Venus Treasa was the very first blogger to link to me. I remember how thrilled I was when I saw HQ on her front page and also, not many seconds, later thought " Oh shite!...people might actually read this drivel I'm producing".The depth and scope of her work is amazing (just look at her categories) and if you don't visit for a while you'll return to find she's started a new blog project or three.
Great writing, great photography, great blogs and when I grow up I want to be just like her.

Tim's Times
About a trillion years ago I spent a year in college "studying" Marine Electronics thinking a life at sea was for me.Luckily for international shipping this wasn't the case and I went on to greatness elsewhere.Tim,however, did go to sea and his excellent blog had me hooked right from the start. There's also a fish out of water element that I respond to with Tim.He calls Sweden home now and that's where you'll find him with his family if he's not on one of the Seven Seas. We've had a few IM conversations and on one occasion I was nattering away with him from a VW dealership while they worked on my car while Tim was on a ship in the North Atlantic.I felt like such a landlubber for the rest of the day.

Annie Rhiannon,
The lovely Annie has had me enthralled for some time now and I see no reason to alter that.Original is the first word that springs to mind with Annie. The second would be 'Blonk'.Third would be 'Welsh' and the fourth 'Ginger'.I'm a fan of all four and they all come (with many others) neatly packaged in Annie.Handy that. She also has the heart of a lion that allows her to share stuff like this.

Fat Sparrow,
I'll bet my choice of Sparrah is a bit of a surprise right? Here's a woman who has had more than her fair share of challenges (her hubby's from Norn Iron....'nuff said) yet still manages to rant and laugh her way through them. Her early comments on my bollix acting revealed a wicked sharp intellect that ,at times, had me hiding behind the sofa just like I did when Davey Banner used to turn into The Incredible Hulk. Her support, encouragement and friendship meant a lot to me back when I started this blogging lark. They still do.

So if any of the five are interested here's the dealio

1. Copy this bit of the post.
2. Reflect on five bloggers and write a least a paragraph about each one.
3. Make sure you link this post so others can read it and the rules.
4. Leave your chosen bloggers a comment and let them know they’ve been given the award.
5. Place the award icon on your site

Goes great with a robust Cabernet Sauvignon I find.

Eeep! Yes, it was. You made me come over all blush-y, like, especially with that last bit.

I suppose I'll have to get to thinking, here....

I'm going to have to look up "bauld". It can't be my first guess, because I still have a full head of hair...

Thanks for the links. They were excellent early Sunday morning quiet-house-while-everyone-is-sleeping reads....

Nope, I can only find "Bauld" as a family name, so unless you care to explain further I'll just have to assume it means "really nice, thoughtful guy" rather than "utter bastard"

Lette,
Hardly chopped liver.Just keeping it to 5 was a challenge but as I said in the post if you're on my blogroll then you definitely qualify.

Sparrah,
Well it's true...so there.Just go look at some of the novellas you wrote in response to my earlier nonsense.

Kim,
'Tis how we say 'bold' in Limerick.Sounds like "BOW-elled".It's a compliment kind sir....then again so is "utter bastard".

ITLT,
Glad you liked them.I'm currently doing the early Monday-morning-read-while-everyone-is-still-asleep-thing.

Savannah,
You really are.I recommend an immersion course. You can do it in as little as a weekend.
Next one is Sept.14-16 in Limerick and I have a place reserved for you.

There are so many wonderful bloggers out there - my favourites keep changing all the time depending on my mood. I particularly like people who respond to comments though - otherwise I feel kind of unwelcome if my comment was ignored. I'm so bummed that I'll miss the limerick meet up. Will you promise to all raise a glass for me?

Conor,
One of the problems I had in picking the five was the "favourites" thing.I mean who wants to be the last kid left against the wall when the teams were picked eh?
Everyone on my blogroll could have been one of the five for various reasons and it was an intersting exercise in blog triage.
As for Limerick? I'll make sure we raise a fucking roof for you love.....don't mind yer drink.
